10 Women 10 Decades. That is what the first 1000 Londoners season of 2017 is bringing you. On January 16th 6pm at the Ritzy Cinema in Brixton and January 30th 7pm at the Hackney Attic we present 10 film portraits about brave, pioneering, funny and unique women from 0-100.
You will get an insight into the lives of a Dame, knighted for her work in race relations, a wild swimmer, a Rabbi, a young mum evicted from her home, a bodybuilder, a vascular surgeon and more. To complete the experience, we have selected unseen archive from London’s Screen Archives.
Following the screening is a panel discussion with the women portrayed in the films. How do women from different decades experience London? How is it, as a woman, to excel in science or sports? How do you combine travelling the world with raising a family?
You will hear Dame Jocelyn Barrow on her fight against discrimination of black people. You will learn what it is like to be a feminist in the Orthodox Jewish community. You can ask beatboxer Bellatrix how it feels to create a first EP and much more.
