Baroness Valerie Amos CH PC was the eighth UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator. Before her appointment to the UN, she was active in British diplomacy and politics as a British High Commissioner to Australia, Leader of the House of Lords and Lord President of the Council. Baroness Amos is now the director of SOAS, University of London.
